What does Edify look for in their tutors?
While having special training or experience with special needs children is a plus, we highly value passion, patience, and willingness to learn. We want our tutors to be able to enthusiastically engage with students, and be able to effectively learn how to employ strategies for dealing with certain neurodivergent learning needs.
What is the screening process like?
While filling in the simple online application, you will be prompted to book a call with us to get to know you better. In this virtual meeting, we will do a background check and ask some questions to understand your existing skills and strengths, your level of interest, your past experience, what additional training or knowledge you might need, and how you may approach certain situations. Please don’t be nervous for this meeting--this is mostly a general chat to get to know you better as a person and see how we can best support or match you with a student in our program!
Why should I teach at Edify?
As a tutor at Edify, you will have access to unique support, from 1:1 mentorship to AI-integrated assistants. You get everything from lesson planning support, guaranteed payment even for no-shows, automated calendar reminders, billing, scheduling systems, AI assistants, and other technologies. Rather than wasting time tracking down parents, you can focus on curating your lessons and get recognized for your special, impactful work. You play an influential role helping kids graduate, go back to school, continue to learning!
How much can I earn by tutoring and how often will I get paid?
Payment will be sent at the end of each month, with a wage of $35/hour for tutors--30% more than other tutoring platforms. This is because we value the specialized support you provide to special needs children, which is truly impactful for families.
What type of training will I receive?
The training you receive depends on what qualifications you already have. However, some initial training may include teaching methods, classroom management, and understanding neurodiversity. You will also learn how to utilize IEP and 504 Plans effectively. Ongoing professional development through 1:1 mentorship is also provided through your lesson planning.
How does the student matching process work and how can I prepare for lessons?
We match tutors with students based on the tutor’s strengths and the student’s specific learning needs, creating the best possible learning environment.

After matching, we will send you an email about who your student, details about Edify mentorship, any books or materials we can order for you, and to sign up for our our scheduling app (TutorBird). The first meeting you have with your student will be a demo lesson/meet & greet, which will allow you to get to know your student’s preferences, behaviours, and interests. If this initial meeting goes well, you will continue teaching them weekly. Otherwise, if you don’t believe you and your student are a good fit, you also have the option to request a new match.
What subjects can I teach?
We provide support in Math, English, French, Science, and Test Prep, with a focus on reducing anxiety and building resilience through Social Emotional Learning.
How flexible are the tutoring hours?
Tutoring hours are highly flexible. You can select your own schedule, and we will match students with you accordingly--allowing you to balance tutoring with other commitments. If you need to reschedule at anytime, we can accommodate as well.
